August 25 August 25: Saturday Night DinnerSaturday Night Dinner again. On the menu tonight: 糖醋排骨 Sweet and Sour Ribs & 清炒豆苗/針菇 Toufu Stem w/Needle Mushrooms. All in all, things came out pretty good. I decided to include a picture of my kitchen after the cooking bomb went off.... lovely. August 24 Billy BombersAmerican food in Singapore. The first time I went here last year I was blown away... especially by the mashed potatoes. I returned yesterday and while it was still good, I wasn't as impressed. Not sure why. The burger was fine (they didn't give me shit about asking for it rare like they do in America) and potatoes were still really good. My New RideSo I finally drove my new (used) car home today. It was a nice adventure... 1. Finding a gas station; 2. Getting use to driving on the wrong side of road (Doesn't Singapore, Malaysia, Indo, Hong Kong, Japan, and Australia realize that the sun set on the British empire eons ago?); 3. Not stalling the car (wondering if it was a good idea to buy a manual car); 4. Not crashing! Ok that is it. The car is home and parked. Tomorrow is the road trip to Malaysia.
August 23 炒粿條&雞排 Fried Noodles & Fried ChickenThe Chicken on the left is from the small Taiwanese stand across the street. To be honest, it is a sad attempt at "authentic" taiwanese fried chicken. But, it still tastes better than KFC. The noodles are from the small hawker center also across the street. August 21 四川涼麵/Cold NoodleI use to eat this in China. The small Chinese restaurant behind my house here in Singapore does an ok job making these. They are served cold with a soy/peanut sauce August 18 番茄雞蛋麵/Tomato & Egg NoodlesMore weekend cooking... with 番茄雞蛋麵 / Tomato & Egg Noodles on the menu. This is popular in northern China... August 11 Singapore BreakfastEver wonder what people eat for breakfast in Singapore? I usually eat this every weekend. Actually, they eat this at anytime of the day. .. You pick your veges/assorted fish cake products and then they cook it up for you soup or dry style. If you go dry style, they give you some broth to wash the it down. The pictures are of "dry style" and the purple sacue is 甜麵醬 (sweet noolde sauce). I frequent this establishment because it is right behind my apartment. August 08 It's OfficialI got my new business cards today. I guess that means my move to Singapore is official! Of course, one side still says Hawaii: August 05 CookingMade use of my gigantic Singapore kitchen today for the first time. Nothing special on the menu. Made some 豆苗 with 大蒜 and 蠔醬. Maybe i'll do something more complicated next week. |
